Wood, faux wood and vertical
Window Blinds in Central Florida from VU: Where Design Meets Functionality
Horizontal slats that tilt for precise light control, or vertical vanes for sliders and wide spans. All made to your opening.
Precise light control
The Advantage of a Tilting Slat
A blind does something a roller shade cannot. Rather than choosing between covered and uncovered, you tilt the slats and redirect the light. Angle them upward and daylight bounces off the ceiling into the room while the sightline from outside is closed. Angle them down and you get the opposite.
That is genuinely useful in Florida, where the sun is high for most of the day and the difference between direct glare and reflected daylight is the difference between a room you can use at three in the afternoon and one you cannot.

Picking the right one
Three Families, Three Jobs
Real wood blinds are the warmest looking and the lightest, which matters on wide windows. They belong where humidity is controlled. Faux wood looks close, costs less, and will not warp in a bathroom or over a kitchen sink, which makes it the default choice in a lot of Florida houses.
Vertical blinds handle what horizontals cannot: sliding doors and windows wider than they are tall. The vanes draw to one side like a curtain and rotate to control light, and they take up almost no depth in the opening.
The range
Types of Blinds We Make
Every one is cut to your measurements at our Ocoee facility rather than trimmed down from a stock size.
Real wood blinds
Genuine hardwood slats, stained or painted. Light, warm and the best looking of the three. Keep them away from sustained damp.
Faux wood blinds
The look of painted wood with full moisture resistance. The right answer for kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms and anything near an open slider.
Composite blinds
A middle ground with a wood core and a protective coating. More rigid than faux wood on wider windows.
Vertical blinds
Vanes that rotate and draw sideways, built for sliding doors and wide spans. Fabric, vinyl and faux wood vanes available.
Aluminum mini blinds
Slim, inexpensive and hard wearing. Common in rentals, garages, utility spaces and commercial fit-outs.
Motorized blinds
Powered tilt, powered lift, or both. Worth it on high windows and anywhere a group of blinds should move together.

Real wood is lighter, warmer looking and can span wider without a support. Faux wood is heavier, costs less, and will not warp, swell or discolor in humidity. In Florida the room usually decides it: real wood in living rooms and bedrooms, faux wood anywhere near water or an open door.
Two inch slats are the most common and suit most rooms. Two and a half inch slats give a slightly more open view and a more substantial look on large windows. One inch slats suit small windows and a more minimal appearance.
We fit cordless lift as standard on new orders because it is safer around children and pets and looks cleaner. Corded options still exist for specific applications, but cordless is what we recommend and what most customers now choose.
Vertical blinds are purpose built for sliders and remain the most practical option. Panel tracks and wide roller shades are the main alternatives. Horizontal blinds on a slider are generally a poor idea because of the width and the constant traffic.
Close the slats and dust with a microfibre cloth or a vacuum brush attachment, then reverse the tilt and do the other side. Faux wood can be wiped with a damp cloth. Real wood should only be dusted or wiped with a barely damp cloth and dried immediately.
